Apple’s iPad Will Read Books Out Loud, Support Free E-Books

It turns out the iPad will read books out loud to you with audio dictation, a controversial feature that caused some trouble for Amazon’s Kindle last year. Also, Apple indicated that you’ll be able to use the iPad to read EPUB titles from sources outside of the iBooks store.

So fast and easy checkout! Awesome use of technology! I stood there a minute and thought (”I must have to do something else! This was too easy”)-Contacted patron and thanked for compliment. Shared compliment with CTS staff and posted in announcements.

Ever wonder how this whole YouTube thing got started? Here’s the story.
Once upon a time, not too long ago, three former PayPal employees created YouTube in February 2005.[1] In November 2006, YouTube, LLC was bought by Google Inc. for $1.65 billion, and is now operated as a subsidiary of Google.

The company is based in San Bruno, California, and uses Adobe Flash Video technology to display a wide variety of user-generated content video content, including movie clips, TV clips, and music videos, as well as amateur content such as video blogging and short original videos.

Most of the content on YouTube has been uploaded by individuals, although media corporations including CBS, the BBC, UMG and other organizations offer some of their material via the site, as part of the YouTube partnership program.[2] THE END (not really) Read more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Youtube

Library Board update

Filed under: Board — Terri @ 4:49 pm

At the March Library Board meeting, former Board member Maria McCarthy-Anderson was presented a plaque in appreciation of her service.

The Customer Relations workgroup members presented an overview of their work, including a summary of the Handheld Conference.  As a representative of the group, Rob showed the Board members how QR tags work, and what their possible library uses would be.

Other action:

  • Approved an update to the Loan Periods, Fines and Fees policy – the update now provides for annual, six-month, and three-month payments for non-resident cards.
  • Approved a 4:00 closing for the CJ Box event on Saturday, March 27.  Staff working that day will be scheduled from 8:00-5:00

3.10.10 facilities

Filed under: Staffing — cramirez @ 12:03 pm

Using the library van: If you use the library van take the gas card along with the keys from the business office, if the van needs gas please fill it up. I will check into getting a card to keep in the van then all you would need is a pin number (which some of you have if you don’t and use the van often let me know and i will get you a pin number) . Also, facilities people will regularly check to see if it needs gas to help out. thank you

Calling: If you need a facilitiy person but can’t get a hold of one, please don’t leave messages on the cell phone as cell ph messages are not checked very often on the 863-0430 number. Your message will be received much faster if you leave a message on the work land line ph or send an email. Also, for anything needing immediate attention phone or email is better than issue manager. thank you

Meeting rooms: we’ve had a few incidents where the public asked staff if they should pick up the meeting room they used and staff informed them they could leave it. I think this happens more at the end of the night when staff are trying to close up the building. this is probably one or two groups. Please let them know they should end their meeting a few minutes earlier and pick up after them selves. thank you

Filed under: Staffing — StephanieJ @ 9:14 am

I’m looking for a couple of roaster pans or a divided buffet tray that I could borrow for the volunteer luncheon.  Does anyone have one of these items available?  Thanks!  StephJ
