Status of the vacancies to date:

Interviews are underway for the LA and page positions, and will continue into next week. The Administrative Assistant position will be re-posted in the near future; we did not find candidates who had the full extent of experience and skills for that position. In the meantime, kudos to the Jens in the business office for keeping up with the day to day office responsibilities, and to PS and CTS staff for helping to answer phones.

Once a month Department Director’s meet just as a group. Today’s meeting was at Fire Station 7. Topics included upcoming SD Municipal League Conference in RC first week in Oct. I will be attending an afternoon session about economic impacts. Fire trucks are being purchased by the fire department. The police department has produced a recruitment psa
Youtube Recruitment PSA. Public Works is developing a safety handbook that will include training for existing and all new employees.

Director’s Update – meeting with WDT to discuss process for a Library Tech program scheduled to begin in Fall 2011, Foundation Board documents, review and discussion with Finance for fiscal procedures, interdepartmental definitions and travel documentation process, draft agenda discussion and conference calls for forthcoming Black Hills Area Trustee Development training co-sponsored with SD State Library 9.28.

AP Stylebook Online Subscription

For those of you who write articles, news releases, or anything else to be distributed to the media (or if you get questions), we now have an individual subscription to the AP (Associated Press) Stylebook online. This will be especially helpful for writing dates, numbers, and titles correctly. It also contains an online pronunciation guide.

Ebooks have been a great success. Keep up the good work in promoting the latest format to our patrons.

As of 9/1/2010:

EPUB- own 349 titles (277 of which have circulated)

PDF- own 65 titles (58 of which have circulated)

Current Holds – 10 holds (EPUB & PDF) out of a total of 56 holds

Parking at Highmark FCU

In answer to inquiry about parking at the bank: We are renting 8 spaces, they are contained between the Library Parking Only signs. The last week or so, the empty space by the sidewalk has been used as a 9th parking spot. It is not a parking spot for anyone, it’s am empty space against the sidewalk. You CAN get a ticket. If it is decided it is an actual parking spot, it is not one of the 8 we are renting, therefore, it is not available to RCPL staff.

Library card sign-up month is officially here. I will try to keep up with quarter sheets and entry forms, but if you need more please put in a publications request. I will also be updating Facebook and Twitter daily with the incentives and discounts the businesses we are partnering with are offering. On Facebook, I encourage you to log in and use the “Share” button to pass the library card sign-up month promotions on to your Friends (post on your wall). Thanks! Elizabeth
