Patron Comments Update

Patron requested that we offer e-books compatible to Kindle. Responded to patron that at this time we cannot offer these because we do not have a vendor for them. If a vendor does offer this service in the future, we will consider purchasing access to these downloadables.
Patron complained that the DVD’s and music CD’s are not in order. Responded by explaining that we are happy to help our patrons find items, so please stop by service desk for help. Also looking for volunteer to help put music CD’s in order.

02-05-10 Love in a Digital Age

Even with the lousy weather last night we had 20 people attend the presentation, “Love in a Digital Age”, by Rex Briggs. A very enthusiastic and outspoken crowd had a lively discussion and several have decided to form a new singles group in town. Rex Briggs did an excellent job and the feedback was very positive in the evaluations. Look for the photos, film and podcast in the near future.

Vicki Wicks from South Dakota Public Radio was there and will post some of the questions and answers during the program on Dakota Digest.

02-05-10 Teen Tech Week March 7-13

I want to let everyone know about what we are doing for Teen Tech Week and how the staff is going to be asked to participate in it. We are holding a YouTube Contest with two different categories, one with the theme of the week, “Learn, Create & Share” and the other a book trailer. Students in grades 6-12 can participate and the deadline for entry is March 10. We are planning a film premier open to the public on Friday, March 12 at 7 p.m. There will be three prizes for each category. The first place prize is a digital camera with filming capabilities, 2nd place an MP3 player and 3rd place, a $50 Best Buy gift certificate.

The staff involvement takes place because the entries have to be put on to a CD and there will be CD’s available to give to entrants at all three Public Service points downtown and at General Beadle. There will also be registration forms available to hand out at those locations. The CD’s will be made into a DVD so it will be easier to show at the film premiere Friday night. Prizes will be awarded at the premiere.

News Release 2/4/10: Sculpt Your Own President this President’s Day

Spend this President’s Day, Monday, Feb. 15, learning about the presidential statues that can be found on the sidewalks of downtown Rapid City. The Rapid City Public Library is hosting a City of Presidents No School Discovery Day in celebration of the holiday.

Dallerie Davis, co-founder of The City of Presidents, will talk about the presidential statue project. Artist James Van Nuys will show a video of how he created the statue of President Millard Fillmore. He will then work with children to mold their own statues out of clay. This program takes place at 9:30 a.m. at the Downtown Library and at 1:00 p.m. at the North Library. All ages are welcome and encouraged to attend.
